Books take old and children alike to places to marvel on the most beautiful and to witness the most atrocious. They tell to fear not and be brave enough to face the moment and prepare for the future. They make us dream and help us to make those dreams come true;  proving that the successful and the leaders of today were the readers of yesterday.

The celebration of the SMM World Book Day 2022 was held on 24^th March and was attended by the SLT, teachers, parents and KS1 and KS2 students. Performances of the students were presented through a time travel story.

Year 1 students wowed the audience with their performance of ‘Open a Book’ to remind everyone that it only takes a flip of a page in order to begin learning. Year 2 presented story telling through Srikruthi Peyyeti’s version of Jay and Sniffer’s The Bike Race. Year 3 entertained the audience with brilliant recitation of ‘There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly’. Selected Year 4 students brought some rain in the UAE with their synchronized chant,  ‘It’s raining’.  Splendid voices of Year 5 created an echo with the Choral recitation of Charles Mackay’s, ‘If I Were a Voice’. Impressive performances from Year 6 students showcased their acting and voice prowess through the ‘Into the Woods’, and ‘Look Down and Do You Hear the People Sing’ from Les Miserables.

As a finale, the students paraded in their book character costumes, bringing the characters to life!

The programme ended with the recognition ceremony for the winners of the Spelling Bee and Poetry Blast 2022.

After more than a year of learning from home, the programme was indeed a refreshingly enjoyable literary event!
