HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces once said that “The UAE flag is the symbol of our unity and strength. It will remain high and proud, from which we will continue to draw the values of sacrifice, building and action.”

As we mark National UAE Flag Day on November 3, 2022, this quotation continues to inspire us and encourages our kids to contribute to and take action for the betterment of the nation.

On a school wide basis, the  Students Council of both the Primary and Secondary,  the SLT and staff of SMM marked the occasion through a flag hoisting ceremony accompanied by the Drum and Lyre band of the school, as a response to the  call of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, at 11:00 am sharp.

In addition, the Social Studies Department at SMM had organized a variety of activities for the students to take part in.  The Secondary students made a meaningful presentation on the background and significance of each flag colour during the morning assembly.

After a special morning assembly led by the Arabic team, the  Primary students celebrated the UAE Flag Day through a  quizzing event which was also the UAE SST-HISTO Week’s culminating activity. The program started by explaining the symbolisation of the different colours of the flag followed by the UAE National Anthem. The Grand Finale Quiz Bee was the highlight of the program with 3 groups competing for first place hosted by Carlos and Nia of 6C. . A representative from each year was assigned to each group and students were grouped according to the following Teams: Team Nahda, Team Majarat and Team Maaref. It was an indeed an informative and exciting event as the students had a great time cheering for their classmates. Team Maharat won with a total of 25 points. Certificates were awarded to all participants and winners of the Quiz Bee.

These activities will undoubtedly foster students’ appreciation for the UAE leaders’ efforts in building a country centered on the values of unity, strength, sacrifice, and action.
